NEWSMAKER: Time for Thiam?

Tidjane Thiam, a minister under former President Henri Konan Bédié, left Côte d’Ivoire for a lucrative business career after Bédié’s ouster in a 1999 military coup. During that time he appeared to have little interest in ever returning to Ivorian politics despite being repeatedly touted as a potential ‘prince across the water’. Now he is back and determined to get the top job.
