The generals choose partition over peace

General Burhan’s SAF has won back the eastern and central lands taken by the RSF but a deadly stalemate persists

The battle for control of Khartoum is raging. The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) led by General Abdel Fattah al Burhan is fighting for control of what is left of the extensive areas that were under the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) authority for more than a year in Khartoum, Bahri, and Omdurman. Most of the Eastern Nile has been freed from RSF, though some pockets still exist in the Blue Nile and Gezira State. In the country’s west, the trend is the opposite: the RSF is getting reinforcements and military hardware that strengthen its resolve to take over El Fasher and most of North Darfur.
