Cash crunch triggers ANC policy fight

The increasingly difficult task of servicing growing debt while delivering social development presents President Cyril Ramaphosa with the toughest choices of his presidency. 'It is a balancing act on the edge of the fiscal cliff,' said a government advisor. Next year's national election, which must take place between May and August, could see the ANC lose its outright majority for the first time since democratic elections began three decades ago.
