Attacks spur ethnic violence

A wave of jihadist attacks and retaliatory measures by the army is shaking up politics and endangering social stability. Prime Minister Paul Kaba Tieba and his government resigned en masse last month after President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré demanded a government shake-up in the wake of the violence. Two days later he appointed 71-year-old Christophe Joseph Marie Dabiré, an old hand under former president Blaise Compaoré, as Prime Minister. Cherif Sy, a former journalist, became Defence Minister, which surprised many as he does not appear to have any relevant experience.
