AGOA hits Mitumba

Rwanda has found itself an unlikely victim of President Donald Trump's international trade war. In a 29 March letter to Congress, the US President announced plans to partly suspend Rwanda's access to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) unless Kigali backtracks on a plan by the six-nation East African Community to slap hefty import tariffs on US second-hand clothes. Since 2000, AGOA has allowed African countries to export over 6,000 products duty-free to the US.
