Morgan goes it alone

Despite mobilising thousands against the government, the opposition is failing to exploit the ruling party's weakness and division

Even with two years to go until the next general elections, the prospects for a grand opposition coalition to unseat the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front look dismal. The disarray in ZANU-PF has failed to galvanise its enemies, who see it as proof of the rightness of their views and a vindication of their unwillingness to compromise with other foes of the ruling party. That's the verdict of opposition insiders assessing the aftermath of the massive demonstration in Harare on 14 April, organised by Morgan Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai (MDC-T).
