For many Somali government officials, the recent visit by a senior British general confirmed what many already knew: sticking to the Western agenda of security fears earns more resources. Britain's Chief of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General John Lorimer, was in Mogadishu this month. After being received by the Defence Minister, Abdulkadir Sheikh Ali Dini, on 10 January, he said his country was committed to fighting the 'Islamic State' (IS/ISIS/Da'ish) which is feared to be gaining ground in the country. The United Kingdom would increase its military support. Abdulkadir Sheikh noted the importance of the visit: 'We discussed the threat of ISIS to Somalia and how the UK can help us defend our nation against militancy and terrorism.'
